How My Cat Taught Me to Pause and Reconnect
First thing every morning, our tabby Chica would wait patiently for us to open the front door. Half the time, she would poke her nose outside, take a few sniffs, and then head back in for breakfast. Cats are like that. Right up to the end of her 17 years, she wanted to smell the air, and make a connection to the day and the world outside.
And she gave us the habit of doing the same thing. Chica’s been gone for a while, but we still open the door for a few moments every morning, and if it’s nice enough, we head out to the railing of our small terrace to take stock of the familiar view.
It makes me feel good. It sets the stage for the day. And now, working so much at home, I find myself stepping out onto the terrace a few times a day, to hit pause, to give myself space to think, and a moment to reconnect.
Winter or summer, fall or spring your balcony or terrace can do that for you too. Consider it a little gift about living more fully from an old cat.
